One of the questions I get asked more than just about any other is:
"What shirt do you recommend?"
After more than 10 years at Ink, I've worked with retail brands, hospitals, ministries, schools, nonprofits, and companies of every size. I've helped launch apparel brands from scratch, outfit thousands of employees, and produce merchandise for events all across the country.
People are usually hoping I'll point to one shirt and say, "That's the one."
The truth is, it depends.
My answer almost always starts with a different question:
Who's going to be wearing it?
Fit & Feel Matter More Than Ever
There was a time when choosing a shirt was mostly about budget. Today, it's just as much about the experience you're creating for the person wearing it. I don't recommend shirts simply because they're popular or because they sell well. I recommend them based on who they're for.
A retail brand has different expectations than a volunteer event. A younger audience may gravitate toward oversized, heavyweight garments, while another group may prefer something lightweight with a more athletic fit.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer, and honestly, that's what makes these conversations valuable.
My Overall Picks
These are the shirts I find myself recommending over and over again. They're not the right answer for every project, but they've consistently delivered great results across hundreds of jobs.
Good
If you're trying to maximize your budget without sacrificing quality, these are dependable choices. They're great for large events, volunteer shirts, giveaways, and organizations that need solid value.
Better
This is where many of our customers end up. These shirts offer a noticeable step up in comfort and fit while still being budget friendly. If you want people to keep wearing the shirt long after the event is over, these are hard to beat.
Best
When I'm helping someone buy a premium apparel line or create merchandise that feels like retail quality, these are the shirts I reach for first.
My Advice
If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's this:
The best shirt isn't necessarily the most expensive one. It isn't always the trendiest either. And sometimes, it may not even be the shirt you'd choose for yourself.
The shirt I'd recommend is the one your audience is most excited to put on.
The brands with the strongest merchandise all seem to have one thing in common: they create apparel that people genuinely want to wear. When that happens, your shirt stops feeling like a giveaway and starts becoming part of someone's everyday wardrobe.
That's what my team and I enjoy helping customers figure out every day. Not just which shirt is popular, but which one is the right fit for your audience.
